The Council chose Blakers Park to host the launch of the new CityParks website in November. Council staff, the cabinet member for the environment and assorted Friends of Blakers Park huddled together on one of the colder November days to pose for the launch photograph, decoratively framed by exotic plants brought specially from Stanmer Nurseries.
The new site aims to encourage people to visit parks they may not know about. At the launch Blakers was described as a “hidden gem” and, with more exposure, it is hoped that more people will come to visit and appreciate it.
Three days earlier The Argus turned up to photograph the community games run by Groundwork on the grass near our Bluebell Wood (though some think it should be called a Bluebell Copse). The picture and somewhat misleading caption was published in its edition of Tuesday 15th November.
